BiOH Polyols Make Waves in Other Industries

Did you know the furniture industry is only one application for BiOH polyols? Other businesses are enjoying the benefits of BiOH products, too. You may be sitting on foam made with BiOH polyols in your car or sleeping on mattress foam made with the polyols soon.

One fun application comes from the surfboard industry. That’s right. The surf is up for BiOH polyols with Homeblown (www.homeblownus.com). Ned McMahon, General Manager for Homeblown US says their foam made with BiOH polyols is the first step in making a more environmentally-friendly surfboard.

Homeblown makes the surfboard blanks sold to surfboard manufacturers. “We’ve been working to provide a more environmentally-friendly surfboard foam for quite some time,” Ned says. “Of all the things we’ve tried, this foam application has come out the best.”

“There is another interesting thing. The standard in the surf industry is for the foam to be white,” he says. “Surfboard cores made with BiOH polyols are more cream-colored. We thought there would be an objection to the color, but in fact, it has worked in our favor. It separates us from the others. It has also become a branding badge for the environment. The color has become a personal statement for surfers that they protect the environment.”
